About Grasslanders e.V.
Who we are and where we come from
The German - Cameroon Grassland Cultural Association "Grasslanders e.V" was created in 2002. The official launching of the association took place on the 26th of May 2002.
Grasslanders e.V was created to:
- forster solidarity among "Grasslanders" mainly living in Germany, in all aspects of daily life
- increase the awareness and need to preserve the identity of "Grasslanders", while at the same time integrating the values and cultures of the community in which we live
- contribute to socio-economic and cultural devbelopment of all members of the association in the German economy as well as contributions in the socio-economic development of Cameroon
Grasslanders e.V. was founder thanks to the creativity and ingenuity of the founding member: Mathieu Tum Young.
After her creation in 2002, the first elections of executive members followed on the 12th of January 2003. The first executive was however installed on the 13.07.2003, due to the difficulties that the association faced to get off the ground.
The first meeting of the young organisation was held at Thiosant resturant in Kreuzberg (Hardenberg str.7) and was attended by the just a few members that made up the association at that time and included the following 6 persons:
- Ngwa wallters
- Dr. Nji, Tum Young
- Hycinth Nyongo
- Gabi Steiner
- Ma. Mary Tamufor
- Protte
Subsequent meetings were held at the Afro shop of a non member: Tonny, in Mehringdamm 105. Other meetings followed at different locations: firstly at the home of Mr. Tum Young and then at other multiple locations.
Between the launch in 2002 and December of 2003, there had been 25 meeting sessions.
